 | "ICE-CREAM AND CONE" | Episode #8 |
SYNOPSIS: In the party boxes today, some ice-cream and a cone - or is it a snowball and a trumpet? Meanwhile Tippy is dancing and the music turns to disco.
1) EXPLORING YOUR BODY Pour some soap and water in a bowl, give your child an eggbeater and several spoons of different sizes and let your child whip up a bubbly creation. Add some flour and let them squish the mixture with their hands and fingers. Children love being able to explore new textures - they need to be able to feel (and often taste!) what they are making. Exercise like these develop hand and finger muscles.
2) EXPLORING YOUR MIND "melt" Place a piece of ice into a glass. Let your child taste and feel it. Pour water onto the ice and watch it melt. Listen to the sounds the ice makes as it melts. Perform this exercise several times with different water temperatures and note how quickly the ice melts. The properties of water are vastly different when frozen or boiling. Children love to do this exercise many times - it's a great one to do outside on a hot day.
3) EXPLORING YOUR SELF Enjoy preparing food with your child - make an ice cream in a cone together, a banana split or some pancakes. Make sure your child gets do a lot of touching and mixing (worry about the mess later!) Cooking food is an opportunity for children to explore all their senses, and with your help they learn new ways to describe things.
