"BUCKET AND SPADE"Episode #7

SYNOPSIS: In the party boxes today, a bucket and a spade - or is it a hat and a golf club? Meanwhile Poppy is in her room playing with pois.

1) EXPLORING YOUR BODY    "wheat dig"
For an interesting digging experience offer a child a funnel and a teaspoon, and have them scoop dry rice or wheat out of a large dish into another.
Digging develops strength in hands and fingers, and is a fantastic sensory experience for children.

2) EXPLORING YOUR MIND      "heavy & light"
Take two buckets or containers and fill one with lots of sand or rocks and the other with a little. Ask your child 'which one is easier to lift?' 'Which one is harder' and introduce the words 'heavy' and 'light'.
You can build on this exercise by talking with your child about the properties of the world around them - point out things like buildings and talk about what they are made of - discuss whether they are heavy or light.

3) EXPLORING YOUR SELF
The 'vestibular system' (which keeps the brain informed about gravity) is located in the inner ear. Twirling, dancing and activities where a child rocks or bounces gently, helps your child's body learn how to balance.
