 | | "RACQUET AND BALL" | Episode #5 |
SYNOPSIS: In the party boxes today, a ball and a racquet - or is it an apple and a guitar? Meanwhile Snuffles is in his room. He thinks there is an inter-galactic transporter flying by.
1) EXPLORING YOUR BODY "underarm" Take a ball, a stuffed toy or a beanbag and practice throwing it with your child. You can throw at a mark on the floor or wall, or into a container. Underarm throwing is great for hand - eye coordination. Once your child has mastered this skill, move further away from the target or introduce an overarm throw.
2) EXPLORING YOUR MIND "3D shapes" Find several three-dimensional shapes in the home - for example an orange for a circle, an egg for an oval, a pillow for a rectangle, and a cushion or box for a square. Explore them with your child - see how they feel, roll and land when thrown. Find the top, bottom, sides and back of each. Children enjoy sensory stimulation - being able to touch, feel and experiment with materials. Each time they are exposed to a simple learning activity, their knowledge base grows.
3) EXPLORING YOUR SELF 'Tactile Stimulation' - touching, moving, and manipulating things within the environment, is one of the main ways that young children absorb information. The opportunity to explore their surroundings along with having sufficient time to do so is an important part of every day.
