 | "CRAYON AND PAPER" | Episode #4 |
SYNOPSIS: In the party boxes today, a red crayon and a large piece of paper - or is it lipstick and a big handkerchief? Meanwhile Poppy is in her room playing dress-ups. THEME(S): Textures and colours
1) EXPLORING YOUR BODY "paperfeelybag" Tear and crush up some papers of different thicknesses and put them into a brown paper bag - make sure to include hard and soft textures like cotton wool too. Let your child feel and discover the different textures. Explain to them what they are feeling using terms like 'rough' 'smooth' 'soft'. This type of sensory exercise allows children to become aware of the range of different textures and providing the vocabulary alongside the physical feeling reinforces the learning..
2) EXPLORING YOUR MIND Take some coloured blocks, pegs and pens. Group them with your child into their colours, for example take a red block, peg and pen, then ask your child to find a set of the same. Children delight in finding patterns, and grouping things by similarities is an early maths skill. Here the similarity is colour.
3) EXPLORING YOUR SELF Play 'make believe' with your child. Fantasy play is a necessary developmental step for children. It is important to play alongside them and interact in the scenes that are being imagined.
