 | | "TENT AND SLEEPING BAG" | Episode #13 |
In the party boxes today, a tent and a sleeping bag - or is it a pillow and a tea towel? Meanwhile Snuffles is in his room. He has an attack of sneezing.
1) EXPLORING YOUR BODY To help your child locate where their arms and legs are, roll your child up in a sleeping bag, towel or blanket. Put gentle pressure on them and then unroll them - for an older child unroll them so they continue to roll a little themselves. Make sure your child feels safe and is having fun at all times - this exercise helps them learn where their body parts are located in relation to each other, and space.
2) EXPLORING YOUR MIND Mark an area on the floor and illustrate the concepts of 'inside' and 'outside' by placing items within the area. Step inside and outside a door, or put objects inside a cupboard, or climb in and out of a box, to reinforce this idea. (This is a good game to use when it's time to tidy up!) A child needs many opportunities to explore this type of basic maths concept.
3) EXPLORING YOUR SELF Take the time to enjoy make believe with your child. Have a pretend camping excursion with your child. Build a hut or a tent somewhere in the house and have lunch in there. Great fun on a rainy day!
